"Let me tell you a secret, something they don't teach you in your temple. The Gods envy us. They envy us because we're mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be more lovely than you are now. We will never be here again." - Archilles, Troy.

Ellen Barkin's Amazing Jewelry Auction Hosted by Christie's October 10th, 2006.

An emerald and diamond ring from Barkin's collection of JAR jewelry is estimated to sell in the $80,000 to $120,000 range.

'Thread' ring, set with an elongated oval-cut diamond weighing more than 22 carats, is a JAR piece from Barkin's collection that is estimated to sell for $800,000 to $1.2 million.

Ruby and amethyst starfish brooch by René Boivin from the mid-1930s has an estimated sale price of $150,000 to $180,000.

Ms. Ellen Barkin is getting set from her divorce earlier this year. She signed pre-nup, so doesn't get half, and there were no kids, therefore she's selling her 102 jewelry collection.
Most newsworthy is definitely her 17-pieces collection of super-reclusive Place Vendôme jeweler Joel Arthur Rosenthal's work (aka JAR) which she amassed during her marriage to Ron Perelman. With the help of Christie's, she auctioned off almost the entire lot of her jewelry. She is keeping one piece though, a diamond ring, a signature JAR "thread ring".
Platinum and diamonds, set in open-weave micro-pavé thread-like settings. Of the 17 JAR pieces, there are four "thread rings."

In the aforementioned 17 Rosenthal pieces are also pieces from the Duchess of Windsor's collection, Doris Duke's estate, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels.
Rahul Kadakia, head of Christie's jewelry department, says the $20.3 million fetch "makes Ellen Barkin's collection the highest single-owner jewelry sale of the past 15 years in the U.S. and also places it among the top four ever worldwide."

A pair of JAR Morganite and aquamarine ear pendants owned by Barkin is expected to sell for $60,000 to $80,000.
